True Warriors Born, part 2

The match is about to begin, and the players set their pieces.

And thus it begins. It's the same chapter, of course, but the set-up took long enough to be its own sub-chapter (clear evidence I don't write Nahast with a print version in mind ^^;). From now on, it's all about the things mentioned before surfacing and blowing up in our dear heroines' faces. Plans come into fruition, characters are forged and personalities are tested.

And one thing I very much wanted to portray is that, unlike many fantasy heroines, these girls have parents. It's not so hard to guess who of the portrayed adults gave birth to whom, and while they won't be having a large role in the match, they will provide reactions and commentaries, and through them, another side to the Hawk Maidens. Behari is the only one not represented, being the only one very likely an orphan (a popular background for kickass girls, sadly) ,but the girls are someone's daughters. We have already met some of them: the gruff yet extremely caring Gaizco Zarranz had a starring role in Chapter 8: Blood of Two Rivers, and we glimpsed Eruhien's mother in Chapter 7: Interludes; while Xilcatzin and (the previously unnamed) Nayetzi Egoski had speaking parts in Jakitza's Tale over Chronicles of the 5th Age. The girls have mentioned things before, such as Zinzti mentioning her parents run a store, Gisako's father being part of the Merchant's Guild, and some of the peculiarities of the dwarven Clan Waio Ko. But now they have faces.

There will only be a couple of pages of setup for the match, and then the fun will begin. Noticing the date, the fun will begin in January 2011, but fear not, I don't plan to take a hiatus for the holidays, so the story will be here, continuing for everyone to read after all presents are unwrapped :)
